Medicare Going Away?
We do not know at this point what changes to Medicare are going to happen in the short term or the long term. It does appear that there are major changes in store to Medicaid.
And changes mean that the dollars to support both programs are being reduced by newly appointed people cutting large swaths of government funding throughout the government.
And the future of Social Security benefits has been and are a topic of worrisome topics.
What does that have to do with you? Everything! The above programs are related to your present and future health and well-being.
More likely than not, the biggest expenses that you will be confronted with pre-retirement years and certainly during your retirement years will be planned and unplanned medical expenses or hospitalization.
There are things out of our control and there are things in our control. Nature takes its but you can do much to mediate heath issues by your lifestyle by eating a nutritious diet and having regular exercise.
The National Research Council and Institute of Medicine report that up to 50% of early deaths in the U.S. are preventable through behavioral factors including diet and exercise. Premature death, as a result of a poor diet, contributes to about 14% of those deaths.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that if all physically inactive Americans became active, we would save $92 billon in annual medical expenses…. plus, or minus a few dollars.
The CDC also states that the total U.S. healthcare costs due to obesity are $123 billion a year. Half of that cost, $61.5 billion, is paid through both Medicare and Medicaid.
Okay, one more fun fact…. According to the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture), healthier diets could prevent at least $87 billion per year in medical costs, lost productivity, and lost lives.
Take control of your health. Add life and add life. Its your choice
